Here’s hoping you are safely and happily tucked in with those you love. Difficult times surely are a predictor of victories to come. We will be celebrating with you on the back end of this challenge. Get your hands dirty in the garden. Plan. Dream. There will be another season.

Mission Hills Nursery, San Diego

April 14-15, 2020

In our ongoing effort to be more available and spread the tomato joy to enthusiastic gardeners in more places we have established partner sales during our spring season! For the last four years these partnerships with select nurseries and plant pros have helped us extend our season and meet that goal.
Visit Tiger Palafox and his staff at this venerable San Diego nursery this spring, March 14 – April 15 and find a curated list of our unique Tomatomania selections designed to offer you a more exciting and delicious experience in the garden this summer.
Stock will be replenished all during this time and know that while we will populate the sale with exotic heirloom and hybrid extras you will also find all the classic tomatoes that you love from seasons past.
Expert help from the nursery staff and a fine selection of everything else you will need for the season is a bonus you’ll enjoy all spring.
Want to kick off the San Diego season with us?
JOIN US for a TOMATO KICK OFF gathering on Friday, March 6th, 5PM at the Nursery.
Select from 10 unique heirloom varieties available, get some garden wisdom from Christy Wilhelmi of TOMATOMANIA (and Gardenerd.com fame) who has just published the new edition of her popular book “Gardening for Geeks” and maybe you’ll be the first to take home our Tomato of the Year, Thorburn’s Terra Cotta.
Hope to see you there.

San Diego Botanical Gardens

April 4-5, 2020

Encinitas, we’re coming back to your neighborhood!
Tomatomania returns to the San Diego Botanic Garden April 4th and 5th this spring to pick up where we left off and excite home gardeners anew with unique and rare heirloom tomato choices (and much more)!
We’ll join the celebration of the Garden’s GOT GREEN! event on Saturday the 4th (Find out more about that at https://www.sdbgarden.org/gotgreen.htm.)  and will keep the tomato and veg rally going on Sunday as supplies allow.
SDBG, (some of you will remember it was Quail Botanical Gardens when we made our first appearance many years ago) holds a special place in our heart, as it was the first step in the process of our becoming the tomato road show we are today. The support of this garden community for our first “out of town” event was a big deal for us and helped boost our confidence and our energy as we expanded.
We look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones as we showcase over 100 varieties of heirloom and hybrid tomato deliciousness. We’ll add peppers, herbs and other popular veggies to the mix as well for this visit, offering friends the opportunity to outfit the whole garden for spring planting.
*Regular garden admission for non-members will apply on Saturday (see below) so we hope you’ll plan to spend some time at the events and in this amazing horticultural space.
We are so pleased the garden will make the dedicated plant sale area open to the public at no charge on Sunday. Use north entrance, (300 Quail Gardens Drive, Encinitas CA 92024) for admittance to the sales area only.
Regular Admission

Adults $18
Seniors, active military $12
Youth 3-17 $10
Members, children ages 2 & under FREE

Friendly docents and volunteers at the garden will staff the Tomatomania sale and a portion of the proceeds will benefit all the great programming at SDBG.

Underwood Farm Market – Somis

March 28-29, 2020

After a successful inaugural year in 2019 we’re so excited to be returning to Underwood Farm Market in Somis!
Underwood Farms has long been a source of amazing produce and a favorite stop for area cooks and families. This year we’ll again add to their incredible event lineup with an appearance at the market location on Los Angeles Ave.
We’ll start with a weekend blast March 28 & 29, then extend our offerings with a smaller curated collection available at the market through April 15.
We’re so pleased to be connected with people who know farming and quality vegetables and will celebrate that with a collection of unique tomato seedlings grown especially for this sale.
Beefsteaks, cherries, heirlooms, hybrids, rare and new varieties; you’ll find them all, along with great advice from our team of Tomatomaniacs and everything else you’ll need to have a successful tomato season.
Oh, and don’t overlook our newest addition, a selection of hard to find PEPPERS. Yes, we’re ready to kick off the spring in the biggest way!  See you there.
